Her jewelry tends to rely on simple forms that are geometric but not always symmetric. These pieces give a strong sense of their underlying design structure, the discipline that provides a framework for the surfaces. And surfaces are always important. Some are textured or made very matte, and some are highly polished. It all depends on the demands of the piece itself and the tactility of the metal of a particular piece. Stones act as points of interest and color, as do the combinations of 18k gold and sterling. Ms. Maddox has a BFA degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington. In addition to a long career of teaching design and jewelry and exhibiting her work, she has been active in various professional and community groups. One of the founding members of the Washington Guild of Goldsmiths, her other organizations include the AAUP, Rockville Arts Place, The Society of North American Goldsmiths and she is currently serving on the board of the James Renwick Alliance. In the past she has served as president of the Maryland Crafts Council and was a co-founder and vice-president of the V.O. Galerie in Washington DC for three years.
