Ann Deutermann works
exclusively with the figure and primarily with the female form.
Her oil paintings are not individual portraits but rather
expressions of something universally human. She is also interested
in an exploration of the feminine and the spiritual.
These
ideas are expressed through the manipulation of surface texture,
color relationships, light, and gesture. The artist's approach to
painting is a combination of seeing and mentally touching form and
space with her brush like a sculptor handling clay. She then melds
what is visually and tactilely real with a visceral response and a
personal inner vision.
Ann Deutermann holds her bachelors
degree from the University of Maryland in commercial art. She
later decided to focus solely on fine art and studied drawing and
painting at the Washington Studio School of Bethesda. Her work has
been exhibited at the Washington Studio School, Remix boutique and
gallery, the Air Rights building, and Create Expressive Art
Center.
