Pat Silbert works in the natural world. Her oil paintings and oil pastel drawings reflect a love of nature and a belief in the interconnectedness of all life. From this spiritual perspective her work invokes the life-death-life cycle of regeneration and a deep appreciation of natural beauty.
The current series, oil pastel drawings of sheep, are inspired by the ancient connection between humans and sheep - humans protect the sheep and the sheep in turn give their wool, milk, and meat for human survival. These sheep belong to farms in Waterford, Virginia, and in Vermont. The oils, painted outside, are a close-up contemplation of flowering plants in the artist's garden.
Silbert has shown in the Washington DC area with Barbara Fendrick, Kornblatt Gallery, Zenith Gallery, and others. She studied at George Washington University, at The Corcoran Art School, and holds an MFA in writing from Vermont College. Silbert worked successfully for many years as a graphic designer and is also an accomplished portrait artist specializing in "informal family portraits," oil pastels on paper of parents and children.
